So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
1 Corinthians 10:12-13
I really like these two versus. There are lots of times when I really think i am doing good and have my life straight and then I give in to some kind of temptation. I try to constantly pray that the Lord will show me the way out when I am tempted to sin. Since doing that, I have really started noticing the opportunities He has provided me to stay away from sin and I always try to thank Him for providing me a way out...and try to ask for His forgiveness when I cave in and am not able to stay strong. I also pray that He will help me the next time that same temptation arises, to resist it.
ReplyDeleteNone of us can resist every temptation we are faced with every time. Jesus' own disciples gave in to temptation - in exchange for money, Judas revealed Jesus to the high priests when they came to crucify Him by kissing Him on the cheek, and Peter denied even knowing Jesus three times. The important thing is that we ask God to give us the strength to make the right decisions when we need to. One thing I try to always do when facing a tempting situation is ask myself this question - "Would I want to be doing this if Jesus came back?" Kinda hard to make the wrong decision when you look at it that way.
