No Comparison

How can I avoid comparing myself with others?

Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved (John) was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, "Lord, who is going to betray you?") When Peter saw him, he asked, "Lord, what about him?" Jesus answered, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me."
John 21:20-22
In this profound, loving rebuke, Jesus told the impulsive Peter that he was not to be concerned about God's plans for anyone except himself. God had plans for Peter, and he had plans for John ("the disciple that Jesus loved"); he has plans for your Christian friends, and he has plans for you. It is foolish to try to determine whether your hand or your foot is more important...you need both. God created you and every other believer to play a certain role in His Kingdom. Only when you work together will God's Kingdom grow and flourish! Constantly comparing yourself to someone else might cause you to miss what God has for you.

For each one should carry his own load.
Galatians 6:5

  1. I used to always find myself wondering why a certain person seemed to have more than me or know more than I did about certain things. The Lord has helped me focus more on my own life and my own relationship with Him. If we are not where we should be in our own lives, how can we help others better their relationships with God? At times I still struggle with this, but the Lord has really shown me that I don't need to compare myself to others because He IS working in my life. Instead of comparing myself to others, I need to focus on God, and the plans He has for me in my life!
